Founded by Tzurit Or in 2007, Tatte Bakery began in a home kitchen and at Boston farmers markets before opening its first café in Brookline, Massachusetts. What started as a small neighborhood bakery has grown into a beloved brand with cafés throughout Greater Boston, Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia, and now the Tri State area. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Chef at Tatte, you will oversee all kitchen operations within your café and play a critical role in the success and development of your kitchen team. Our Chefs lead teams of cooks, prep cooks, and dishwashers in a fast paced, high volume environment rooted in quality, collaboration, and genuine hospitality.

We are looking for leaders who are passionate about scratch made food, thrive in dynamic kitchen environments, and have the ability to engage, inspire, and develop strong teams while maintaining operational excellence. We expect our Chefs to:

  • Lead kitchen production and service according to established operational standards
  • Maintain exceptional food quality, consistency, cleanliness, and organization
  • Train, coach, and develop kitchen team members while fostering a positive team environment

Scope of Responsibilities

  • Run production and service according to established guidelines
  • Follow standardized recipes, portioning, and presentation standards
  • Complete and utilize daily production worksheets and waste logs
  • Taste completed meals to ensure quality and consistency
  • Train kitchen staff in food preparation, safe handling, equipment operation, food safety, and sanitation standards
  • Establish and maintain cleaning and maintenance schedules for equipment, storage, and work areas
  • Ensure kitchen staff follows and completes all cleaning and maintenance responsibilities
  • Maintain inventory levels within established guidelines while ensuring product availability
  • Follow all company safety and sanitation policies and procedures
  • Participate in departmental meetings, staff development, and professional development programs
  • Support and implement seasonal menu changes

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Ability and desire to work a flexible schedule based on business needs, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to work 10+ hour shifts and stand, sit, squat, or walk for extended periods of time
  • Ability to grasp, reach overhead, push, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • 3–5 years of progressive culinary or kitchen management experience, depending on formal culinary education or training
  • Proven passion for culinary excellence and exceeding guest expectations
  • Strong understanding of kitchen systems, operational execution, and food safety standards
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Preferred Skills

  • Degree in Culinary Arts, Food Service Management, or related field preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Previous experience with UltiPro, Toast POS, CrunchTime, and Teamworks preferred
  • ServSafe, Allergen, and ChokeSaver certifications preferred
